Proactive, Preventative Systems Management Strategy Helps Colorado Town Expand Library Services
Kaseya Solution Streamlines and automates IT Tasks from a Central Management Console
ST. HELIER, JERSEY, December 4, 2007 — Kaseya, a global provider of information technology (IT) automation software for IT solution providers and corporate IT organizations, announced today that Wilkinson Public Library in Telluride, Colo., is using Kaseya's automatic systems management solution to ensure the availability and performance of mission-critical applications that manage the library's growing inventory of books, periodicals and other materials. The solution also ensures the availability of patron services such as an electronic catalogue and Internet-enabled workstations.
The Kaseya solution gives Wilkinson Public Library’s sole IT administrator complete visibility and access into all servers and workstations on the network from a central management console, allowing him to streamline basic tasks like patch management, software deployment, backups and monitoring, effectively eliminating redundancy and reducing hands-on manual maintenance.
“Before deploying the Kaseya solution I was operating a sneaker-net that required me to physically walk from system to system throughout the building for even the most basic maintenance,” said Joe Huff, network administrator, Wilkinson Public Library. “Now I have a coordinated and proactive systems management strategy in place that allows me to maintain, monitor, secure and back up every system from a single consolidated interface.”
As a result of Huff’s proactive, preventative management strategy, library employees have seamless access to the applications and information they need to provide library services to Telluride’s fluctuating population. At the same time, patrons are able to access an electronic catalogue, log on to the Internet and sign up for library cards and schedule meeting rooms online.
Huff is able to automate basic tasks like patch management and software deployment by eliminating much of the repetition usually associated with IT maintenance. For example, when Microsoft issues a patch, he can download the update locally and then push it out automatically to the rest of the network at the touch of a button. Previously, Huff would have had to physically download and install the patch on each machine—a process that took days, even weeks.
“Eliminating redundancy is important to developing a proactive, preventative systems management strategy and ensuring the health of your IT environment,” said Jim Alves, executive vice president of product marketing, Kaseya. “By leveraging automation and by taking travel time out of the management equation, a small or one-man IT staff is able to make sure end users have seamless access to the tools and information they need on a daily basis.”
